Nerd Sketching and Playing with New Drawing Gear

New Drawing Tools

So in December I binged on drawing tools and paper. I haven’t gotten around to testing the papers yet, but my new collection of brush pens, pens and nibs has me all swooning. A Rotring Art Pen (EF), good for both writing and sketching, a very very black Pentel Brush Pen, a grey Pentel Color Brush Pen, and a whole set of pen nibs.

The Pentel Color Brush Pen is a bit clumsy, especially compared to his elegant and handy little black brother, so the little one is probably going to be used much more by me. It is also the first of the lot that I’ve been seriously test driving the past week or so, first at home

The lack of detail is due to my being stuck in the cafeteria, without any daylight whatsoever, and not much light in general, so a similar situation to party sketching only that people moved less around here.

  6. I’ve got exactly the same Pentel brush pens and I love them :) I really love your sketches.

  7. Hi M, I really like the Rotring so far, but there is one thing that annoys me: the minuscule size of the ink cartridges. I cannot find even one good reason to make them this small, I think they could be 3 x as big and still fit into the handle, and I don’t enjoy having to change them every couple of days (I don’t just use it for drawing, but writing too, and thus I’m using it a lot).

But I don’t have that problem with the Pentel Brush Pens;-) Thank you, Veronika!

  8. Forget the cartridges! Use the rotring converter cartridge instead and you will be able to make your own ink mixture to draw with. as long as you don’t use too much ink and maybe mix it with destilled water, you can use the art pen to do waterproof sketches!
Since I do so, I don’t use the custom cartridges at all.

  9. I did get a converter, but I still enjoy playing with water soluble ink.
